Viime viikko oli mukava. Rakastan mun host-perhettä niiiin paljon! Oon tosi super onnellinen ja kiitollinen, että he valitsivat minut ja saan elää heidän kanssaan. He ovat aivan mahtavia ja maailman mukavimpia!! I love them so so so much!
Koris alkoi virallisesti, mutta me managerit ei oikein tehdä yhtään mitään, joten vaan istutaan ja chillataan. Teen yleensä läksyt treenien aikana, sillä treenit loppuu vasta viideltä. Treeneissä saattaa tulla vähän tylsää, mutta mieluummin olen siellä tekemättä mitään ja nähdä ihmisiä, kuin yksin himassa tekemässä ei mitään.
Tein kuviksessa erään laisen muotokuva työn. Pidin sen tekemisestä, koska en ole tehnyt mitään sellaista aikaisemmin. Opettajakin vissiin piti siitä sillä hän laittoi sen koulun käytävälle näytille. Työssä on yhdistety air brushing- tekniikkaa ja mustekynällä työskentelyä. Muotokuvanani käytin Eddie Redmayneä. Päämääränä oli saada naama näyttämään siltä, että se olisi muodostunut muista asioista, kuten esimerkiksi luonnosta (puista, kasveista, jne.). Minä valitsin luonto-teeman.
Amerikka sai tietää uuden presidenttinsä keskiviikkona aamuyöstä. Donald Trump voitti vaalit. Kun heräsin keskiviikkona, olin saanut monia viesteja kysyen, että mitkä fiilikset ja sen sellaista. En ole hirveän kiinnostunut politiikasta, enkä ole seurannut sitä aktiivisesti, varsinkaan Amerikan politiikkaa, joten minulla ei oikein ole mielipiteitä tästä aiheesta. Se ei hirveasti myöskään vaikuta minuun, joten annan sen olla. Täällä missä asun on paljon republikaaneja, joten Hillaryn häviö ei ollut niin iso juttu täällä, kuin se oli jossain muualla.
Torstaina koulussa vietimme veteraanien päivää. Tapahtuma pidettiin koulun jumppasalissa. Siellä oli yläkoulun ja lukion bändit soittamassa. Sinne saapui monta veteraania ja heidan perheitään. Ohjelmassa oli puheita, videoita ja musiikkia. Meillä ei Suomessa vietetä tätä (ainakaan samassa mittakaavassa), joten oli taas kerran mielenkiintoista olla osana amerikkalaista perinnettä.
Lauantai aamulla minä, Mary ja Joe, menimme Pizza Ranchiin puhumaan opettajaryhmälle omista koulusysteemeistämme. He kyselivät kaikenlaisia kysymyksiä, kuten millaisia läksyjä saamme ja miten meidän koulut toimii ylipäätään. Olen huomannut, että nautin esittämisestä ja puhumisesta ihmisille. Minä pidin tapaamisesta, ja minusta se oli oikein mielenkiintoinen. Launtaipäivällä tein Cinnamon Roll muffinsseja. Oli aika jännää. Lopputulos oli kuitenkin herkullinen kaikkien mielestä.
Illalla katsoin leffan nimeltä The Imitation Game. Pidin siitä todella paljon. Elokuva kertoo siitä, kuinka Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) ja muutama muu brittiläinen matemaatikko yrittää ratkaista 2:n maailman sodan aikana saksalaisten käyttämän Enigma-koneen. Minusta leffa oli erittäin mielenkiintoinen. Suosittelen!!
Sunnuntaina skypetin vanhempieni kanssa. Voisin puhua heidän kanssaan joka päivä ikuisuuksia. Tuli taas niin kiva olo. Loppu päivän katsoin lisää elokuvia ja nettishoppailin. Illalla Mgonjat tulivat taas meille. Söimme aivan mahtavan illallisen. Nam!

Last week was nice. I love my host-family sooo much! I’m so super happy and blessed that they picked me and that I get to live with them. They are awesome and the world’s nicest people!! I love them so so so much!
Basketball officially started, but us managers don’t really do anything, so we just sit and chill. I usually do my homework during the practice because it ends as late as five. During the practise I can get a bit bored, but I rather be there and do nothing than be at home alone doing nothing.
I did a portrait work in art. I liked doing it, because I haven’t done anything like that before. I guess the teacher liked it too since he put my work in the school hallway to be seen. In the project we used air brushing and black markers. As my portrait face, I used Eddie Redmayne. The goal was to make the face look like it has been formed of other things like nature (trees and bushes, etc.). I chose the nature theme.
America found out their new president early Wednesday morning. Donald Trump won the election. When I woke up in the morning, my phone was filled with messages asking me what do I think of this and what's my opinion. I’m not really interested in politics, and I don’t follow them, especially the American politics. Because of that, I don’t really have an opinion about all this. The politics here don’t really affect me either, so I let be. Here where I live, there are a lot of republicans, so Hillary’s loss didn’t cause so much distress than in other places.
On Thursday we had a Veterans day program at school. It was held in the school’s gym. The high and middle school bands where there playing. There were many veterans and their families there. People had speeches and they showed us some videos. We don’t really spend Veterans Day in Finland, at least not like here, so it was interesting to be apart of another American tradition.
On Friday, I went to Mary’s house for a sleepover. We did some homework and food. We watched movies and ate ice cream. I enjoyed myself. We stayed up late, but that’s what you always do right?
On Saturday morning, me, Mary and Joe went to Pizza Ranch to speak to a group of teachers about our education systems. They asked us different questions, for example how much homework we get and how our schools are set up in general. I’ve noticed that I like presenting and talking to people. I liked the meeting. I think it was interesting. After that I made some Cinnamon Roll muffins at home. It was a new recipe, but the result was delicious according to everyone. I call that a success.
In the evening I watched a movie called The Imitation Game. I liked it very much. The movie is about Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) and few other British mathematicians who are trying to break the Enigma machine which was used by the Germans during the World War 2. I thought that the movie was super interesting. I recommend it!!
